If there's one thing we love at Rotator Vinyl its a challenge! So it was a positive joy to get a call from the magnificent artist, Henge, who wanted a very long double groove cut done for two 9 minute long pieces on side 2 of their album "Journey to Voltus 8".
A double cut (I'll start referring to it as that because its what I have always referred them as) is when there are two versions of the audio running parallel to each other, and its hit or miss as to which version you get to hear when you put the needle down. In Henge's instance, there were two totally different mixes done. Its a very difficult process, not possible by DMM and only achievable by getting a real old school, highly qualified and motivated engineer on board to cut it.. which luckily we had access to!
Not only is this a very unusual record type we are proud to have produced, but I was delighted that the band were keen to involve me in the creative side for the sleeve, packaging and vinyl colour too. We elected to manufacture using Ecomix vinyl, where the pressing plant uses left over chips as part of a zero waste policy, meaning that there are several random colours and effects throughout the run. A full colour printed inner and a download card featuring both versions of the B side, was also included. And 500 of them had a one of two versions of a patch inserted also. When it came to the sleeve, they had several ideas and my suggestion of printing in full colour onto mirror board had the exact effect they had been hoping to achieve.
all in all a magnificent order!
